Ram Cliand Shaha, a Hindoo male, aged 56 years, a shopkeeper, admitted 29th July, 1864, with strangulated hernia of the right side; disease of 6 years' duration, strangulation of 24 hours' prior to admission ; admitted at 8 a.m., with restlessness, feeble pulse, and constant sickness; operation at 10 a.m.; stricture divided, sac not opened, the hernia partly reduced, an ice bladder applied. As the symptoms of strangulation did net cease, at 2 p.m. the sac was opened and about 5 inches of small intestine found gangrenous. Tumor consisted of omentum and about 10 inches of small intestines. Patient died same day, of exhaustion, from gangrene of the gut. 2. Jadu Narain Dutt, a Hindoo male, aged 44 years, a shopkeeper, admitted 18th December, 1864, with strangulated inguinal hernia of the right side; hernia of 10 years' duration, strangulation of 2 hours' before admission ; operation immediately after; stricture at the external ring, which was divided, and the tumor reduced without opening the sac. By the 9th January, 1865, when the wound for herniotomy healed, operation for radical cure performed by plug and ligatures. Discharged 8th February, 1865, relieved; hernia came down, hut the tumor not so large; plug removed on the 4th day. 3. An East Indian, aged 60 years, a writer, admitted 25th September, 1865, 7 p.m., with strangulated hernia of small size, ?Without much constitutional disturbance; hernia of 9 years' standing, strangulated 2 hours before admission. Patient was closely watched. Attempts made to reduce the hernia, but without success. Lastly, on the night of the 26th, when the symptoms of strangulation supervened, the hernia was easily reduced after the division of a stricture, seated at the external ring. Sac not opened. Patient discharged 22nd October, 1865,
